Average price of health insurance in the USA
Individual policy holders paid an average of $167 a month in premiums with an average deductible of $2,632; family plans averaged $392 with a $3,531 deductible.
Medicaid - which has always been available for some eligible low-income candidates, is available to more people since the new legislation came into effect. By 2014, those earning up to 133% of the federal poverty level will be eligible for Medicaid.
Subsidies - individuals earning less than 400% of the federal poverty levels, will be able to apply for financial assistance in paying for their insurance premiums through government subsidies, as of 2014. In 2014, people will be able to seek out policies offered by not-for-profit companies under the CO-OP program.
